President Bola Tinubu has added Maryam Shetty from Kano to the second round of ministerial candidates.
On Wednesday, Femi Gbajabiamila, the president’s chief of staff, appeared before the Senate to present 19 candidates for consideration.
Ms. Shettima is a well-known physiotherapist, political and social activist and former client of the great Jamaican sprinter and world record holder Usain Bolt.
She worked with the top athlete from Jamaica when she was a member of the medical staff for the London Olympics.
Born into the royal family of Kano, Mrs. Shettima started her early education there before transferring to the Federal School of Physiotherapy, Bayero University, where she successfully completed her graduation.
One of Africa’s most influential young leaders, Ms. Shettima has developed a prestigious career in the field of physiotherapy while working as a social entrepreneur, supporting women and increasing the scope of her participation in society.
Before moving to London to complete her studies, she did a short internship at Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and Dala Orthopedic in Kano. She has a degree in Sports Physiotherapy while completing her Masters at the University of East London in Stratford.
The ESGT University of Technology, Republic of Benin awarded Ms. Shettima an honorary degree for her outstanding work in leadership and community development.
