Mathias Boye was born on Friday, July 11, 1980 (43 years old in 2023) in Frederikssund, Denmark. At the age of six, Mathias Boye joined the Odense Badminton Club in Denmark and began his badminton career. In an interview, he said,
I started playing badminton at the age of 6 in Odense. My whole family played badminton and some of them still play. I like being a badminton player because I can do what I love most. ”

Mathias Bowie made his international debut in 1998. After playing with Michael Jensen, Thomas Hofgaard and Michael Lampe, Bowie teamed up with Carsten Mogensen and achieved great success. Bowie and Mogensen reached the final of the US Open (2004) in their first partnership together and have since won numerous honors, including silver medals at the London Olympics (2012) and the World Championships (2013). Bowie and Mogensen have won 16 Superseries titles together. In 2016, Bowie led Denmark to become the first non-Asian country to win the Thomas Cup.

Bowie and Mogensen’s partnership broke up in March 2019, after which Bowie teamed up with Mads-Conrad Petersen. Bowie’s last match took place at the Russian Open Badminton Championships at the Olympic Stadium in Vladivostok, Russia on July 21, 2019. On Thursday, April 23, 2020, Mathias Bowie announced his retirement from international badminton.

This photo was taken at a training camp when I was about 13 years old. I still remember all those camps very clearly, the focus was on making friends, having fun and becoming a better badminton player. Now, 27 years later, it’s time to retire from the sport that has occupied almost all of my attention since I was a little boy. I’ve made friends all over the world, had a lot of fun and I tried my best to be the best badminton player I can be.
