Matt Gaetz Arrest and Charges: What Did He Do?
Although Matt Gaetz has not been arrested, he is facing serious charges. The Democratic candidate who lost to Gaetz in Florida’s 1st congressional district last year, Rebekah Jones, appears to be the source of these claims. Rebekah’s questionable origins make it difficult to accept her claims. For example, in 2019, she was arrested and charged with stalking her ex-boyfriend, who was also a student at Florida State University.
She was previously charged with violating a domestic violence restraining order involving the same ex-boyfriend, as well as felony counts of robbery, trespassing and contempt of court. Rebekah Jones is now hunting Matt Gaetz. In a series of tweets, she claimed that several media outlets had discovered Matt Gaetz’s affair with his press assistant, Joel Valdez. After the FBI allegedly received photos of Gaetz “kissing young men,” she tweeted that the congressman’s office was in “upheaval.” Requests for response from Gaetz’s office and his wife went unanswered after all of these tweets went viral.
Matt Gaetz: Who is he? What were his previous charges?
Gaetz grew up in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, the son of prominent Florida politician Don Gaetz. He practiced law briefly after graduating from William & Mary Law School before deciding to run for state representative. He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016. His support for Florida’s divisive “stand-your-ground” statute has garnered much media attention.
He was originally elected to the US House of Representatives in 2016 and was re-elected in 2018, 2020 and 2022. Joel Greenberg, a friend of US Rep. Matt Gaetz, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for child sex trafficking. Joel Greenberg, the former Seminole County tax collector, has been charged with stalking a political competitor, government corruption, issuing false licenses and conspiracy to make fraudulent loan applications. He pleaded guilty to six federal charges, including conspiracy to bribe a public official, stalking, identity theft and fraud.
According to prosecutors, Greenberg allegedly paid at least one girl to have sex with him and other men. Greenberg’s involvement could help his friend Gaetz’s investigation into whether he paid the 17-year-old girl for sex. Gaetz first claimed the claims were part of an extortion scheme, which he has now denied. The Republican congressman, who represents Florida’s bane, has not been prosecuted.
