In a heartbreaking statement shared with People, family members of the late actor wrote: “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother.
“Matthew has brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and as a friend.”
They concluded by saying, “You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
On Saturday, the star of the series Friends died at the age of 54 in an apparent drowning accident at his home.
He was reportedly found unresponsive in a jacuzzi at a home in Los Angeles.
Matthew is believed to have drowned, according to an early report by TMZ.
Law enforcement sources told the publication that emergency services were first called to the Los Angeles property for cardiac arrest.
Although Matthew had a long history of addiction, sources said no drugs were found at the crime scene and foul play is not suspected at this time.
ARRIVAL AT THE PLACE OF THE EVENT
Hours after his death, Matthew’s father, John Bennett Perry, 82, appeared to be struggling with his mother, Suzanne Morrison, and stepfather, Keith Morrison.
The trio appeared dazed and shocked as they pulled up at the property.
Suzanne arrived in a car driven by her partner Keith.
John entered the scene shortly before them and greeted them at the property.
The US Sun witnessed John looking distraught as he arrived in his car.
The patriarch spoke to the officers before slowly walking back to his vehicle and being released under the cordon.
John was separated from his mother when Matthew was about a year old.
The Studio 60 on Sunset Strip actor is also survived by five younger half-siblings: Mia, Emily, Caitlin, Willy and Madeleine.
HIS LAST POST
On Monday, October 23, Matthew took to Instagram for his latest post, sharing a snap of himself taking a late-night bath.
In the picture, he appeared to be relaxing in the water and wearing headphones.
Matthew captioned the post: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good?”
“I’m Mattman.”
The star’s rise to fame came thanks to his comedic role as Chandler Bing on the popular NBC sitcom.
His celebrity co-stars were Matt LeBlanc, 56; Courteney Cox, 59; David Schwimmer, 56; Lisa Kudrow, 60; and Jennifer Aniston, 54.
