Matthew Perry's Friends Sweater Among Several Show-Used Items Available in 30th Anniversary Auction

Friends fans can now own a piece of the late Matthew Perry’s iconic wardrobe as Chandler Bing, but only if the price is right.

In honor of the sitcom’s landmark 30th anniversary, Warner Bros. Television and Julien’s Auctions are selling several pieces of memorabilia – including some garments worn in the shows – on September 23rd in a live auction and now online.

The auction, titled “The 30th Anniversary Auction,” includes a head sculpture that was in Ross Geller’s (David Schwimmer) character’s apartment, an ottoman from his living room, a shirt worn by Paul Stevens’ (Bruce Willis) character), a sweater worn by Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) and another sweater worn by Perry’s character Chandler.

Simply listed on the Julien’s Auction website as a “Chandler Bing” sweater, Perry wore it in the season seven episode “The One with the Holiday Armadillo.”

According to the listing, Perry wore the top “in the scene in Central Perk where Monica informs him that she won’t be changing her last name to Bing,” as well as later in the episode “when Phoebe brings her late mother’s Christmas candy dish to the gang’s holiday party.”

With a starting bid of $250, the sweater was expected to sell for between $1,000 and $1,500. As of Sunday, September 1 – weeks before the live auction itself – the current bid is already $1,500.

The auction comes less than a year after Friends star died at age 54 in October 2023 after an accidental drug overdose.

It also arrives as the iconic sitcom is set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its pilot episode, which premiered on September 22, 1994.

Another item that is already receiving high bids is the sweater that Aniston (55) wore during the seventh season episode “The One with the Truth About London.” A gray mohair turtleneck was also expected to fetch between $1,000 and $1,500, but it beat expectations and is at $4,000 as of September 1st.

According to the auction house, the auction itself “serves as a tribute to the show’s enduring legacy, providing fans with a unique opportunity to own a tangible piece of television history,” and is also “a testament to the show’s ability to create connections and evoke fond memories, cementing its place as a cultural staple.”
