Mauricio Umansky Files for Conservatorship Over Father, Claims Dad's Girlfriend 'Verbally and Emotionally' Abused Him

Mauricio Umansky has filed for custody of his 81-year-old father, Eduardo Umansky.

The real estate mogul is hoping to serve as conservator, along with his sister Sharon Umansky Benton, of Eduardo’s person and estate after an Aug. 14 filing that said he was unable to care for himself.

In a petition to appoint a guardian of the estate obtained by PEOPLE, Mauricio and Sharon claimed that their father’s girlfriend used his inability to “resist undue influence and fraud” for her own gain.

“Over the past few months, computers [proposed conservatee] the girl became more controlling, limiting and regulating who PC could visit,” the filing claims. “She started isolating him and trying to get married even though they’ve been together for twenty years and never decided they wanted to get married.”

The petition described an incident in which Mauricio and his sister took their father out to lunch without informing his girlfriend, which allegedly led her to “rage” and later “verbally and emotionally abuse” their father.

“Petitioner is informed and believes and alleges on this basis that PC is unable to resist undue influence and fraud and has been taken advantage of by his girlfriend,” the complaint continued. “Over the past eighteen months, PC [Eduardo] and the Supplicant [Mauricio] they discovered it [the girlfriend] took, concealed and misappropriated more than $260,000 from PC through undue influence, whether physical or emotional, and/or fraud.”

It further states that the additional $100,000 in costs is unexplained. “PC is unable to stop this abuse and behavior and is seeking help to manage this consumption,” the petition concluded.

Under Eduardo’s financial statement, his annual gross income is listed as $200,000 with $20,000 in personal assets and no real estate value.

The Agency’s founder and his sister checked the box indicating that their dad has no developmental disabilities, but that he is “unable to properly meet his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter” and is “largely unable to manage his or its financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence.”

Attached was Eduardo’s signature consent to guardianship from two months prior — June 11, 2024. The family was granted a trial at the end of October for a judge to determine the validity of the request.

The documents show that Eduardo will be able to appear in court for the hearing.
