Maury Povich and Connie Chung enjoy a rare date!
The couple stepped out together to attend the 50th Daytime Emmy Awards. Povich is being presented with a lifetime achievement award on Saturday, presented by Chung.
For the outing, which was held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, Povich (84) wore a traditional black tuxedo. Chung (77) chose a hot pink blazer and black pants. She completed the look with dangling earrings and a white clutch.
Before receiving a lifetime achievement award, Povich — whose daytime talk show Maury ended in September 2022 — took the stage to honor tonight’s Gold and Silver Circle guests, Vernee Watson, Al Schwartz, Christina Knack, Tanya Hart and Patrick Weiland. The Gold and Silver Circle is an honor society and those who are inducted “have performed distinguished service in the television industry, setting the standard for achievement, mentorship, leadership and professional recognition over 50 or 25 years.”

Maury Povich and Connie Chung reveal the secret of their 42-year love story
Povich and Chung have been married since 1984 and share a son, Matthew, 28.
The two looked back on their love story with PEOPLE in 2020, reminiscing about their early beginnings and what got them here.
“In 1969 I was a copywriter at a small TV station in Washington, DC and he was a big star and I was just a kid,” Chung recalled of her first interaction with Povich. “I would rip the wire copy off the machine and give it to Mr. Povich. He was very rough and very real. He never looked up. I kept thinking, ‘Maybe one day he’ll admit I’m a human being.’ I worked there for two years and then left to start my career – and left him in the dust.”
“A few years later, after bouncing around the country from job to job, I ended up in Los Angeles by 1977, and then I was second banana to Connie,” Povich said. “Connie was a big anchor star at the CBS affiliate, and I was her partner before they cleaned house. Since Connie was the only person I really knew in Los Angeles, I always said the way to Connie’s heart first, she regrets you, and then she can love you. She regretted the fact that I got fired.”

Connie Chung on the ’embarrassing’ reason she agreed to marry Maury Povich after two proposals
The couple dated for the next six years before tying the knot in front of 65 of their closest friends and family. Povich and Chung credit playful banter and open communication as key to their romance through good times and bad as they supported each other through career ups and downs, struggles with infertility and the adoption of their son Matthew in 1995.
“Whatever arguments or arguments are going on during the day, when the head hits the pillow, they’re over and they don’t continue the next morning. It doesn’t cross my mind,” Povich said of their marriage success advice. “But we’ve always respected each other’s careers and we’ve always respected each other’s space and values. There’s no need to change anything. Maybe that’s why we’re still married.”
On the other hand, Chung joked that he has “complaints and I have to keep discussing it, whatever it is,” before stressing, “I would go back and relive every moment.”
