Maxi Jazz was a British musician, rapper, singer, songwriter and DJ. He was best known for being the lead vocalist of the British electronic band Faithless from 1995 to 2011 and from 2015 to 2016.
As a DJ, he founded The Soul Food Cafe System in 1984. He broadcasted the sound as a DJ calling it “In the Soul Kitchen with DJ Maxi Jazz” on Reach FM London 1984/6.
He later transmitted that sound in 1987 to the pirate radio station LWR. He sang non-stop for 24 hours and raised £1,440,000 for the UK charity Comic Relief in 2009.
He joined a band of musicians called Maxi Jazz & The E-Type Boys in 2015. He also performed at Vintage Culture 2022 on the single “Commotion”.
As a solo musician he has released many tracks including Rock to Dis, Do Your Dance, Summertime, The Maxi-Single, 5 Track EP, Brixton, Dance4life, Where the Heart Is, Tomorrow’s Day, In My Brain and Commotion.

Maxi died on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the age of 65. However, the cause of his death has not yet been revealed. Faithless band members Sister Bliss and Rollo posted tributes to Max on social media, saying:
“It is with broken hearts that we announce that Maxi Jazz passed away peacefully at his home in South London last night.”
