Meena Rana is an Uttarakhand singer who sings mainly in Kumani and Garhwali languages. She is considered one of the finest female singers of Uttarakhand and the most recorded female singer of Uttarakhand. She is often called the “Lata Mangeshkar of Uttarakhand” and the “Sur Kokila of Uttarakhand”.

Meena Rana was born in Delhi on Saturday, May 24, 1975 (age 44; as of 2020) as “Meena Singh Rana”. Her zodiac sign is Gemini. She attended Butler Memorial Girls High School in Derry. She then went to Mussoorie to live with her sister Uma, where she completed her education at Mussoorie Girls Inter College. Meena graduated from Delhi University.

Meena Rana made her acting debut with the Garhwali film Nauni Pichhadi Nauni (1992).
In the film, she sang three songs namely “Ni Biwanu Shairu Ma”, “Baith Dola Laadi” and “Jando Ni Chhaun Mi”.
She has sung in many popular Uttarakhand albums such as Chand Taro Maa, Meri Khati Mitthi, Darbar Nirala Sai Ka, Utrakhandi Garhwali Teri Meri Maya, Meru Uttarakhandi, Chilbilat, Mohana, Chandra and Lalita Chi Hum and has collaborated with Many popular Uttarakhand collaborations. Singers include Narendra Singh Negi, Pritam Bharatwan, Fauji Lalit Mohan Joshi, Anil Bisht, Gajendra Rana and Mangesh Dangwal. Meena has sung in multiple languages including Garhwali, Kumaoni, Jaunsari, Jaunpuri, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Kargali, Balti, Hindi and has recorded over 500 songs in Ladakhi.

- Mina revealed in an interview that she had never received any formal singing training before her debut. A few years after her debut, she began studying music.
- Meena Rana started her singing journey at the age of 16 at Akashvani Club in Mussoorie, where she sang Lata Mangeshkar’s “Nainon Me Badra Chhaye”. The club is owned by Mukesh Lal Kumola (relative) and her sister’s husband Ram Lal Kumola.
- She was inspired by Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar.
- Folk singers Mani Bharti and Puran Singh Rawat discovered Meena during one of her performances and got her through her sister’s husband Ram Lal Kumar Ram Lal Kumola contacted her. Therefore, she went to Delhi in 1991 to record her first song and made her debut with the film “Nauni Pichhadi Nauni” (1992).
- Her husband Sanjay is also a singer and her sister’s brother-in-law. They used to sing together at the Akashwani Club in Mussoorie. Meena’s sister Uma thought Sanjay and Meena were a perfect match, so she arranged their marriage.
