Meet David Bowie's 2 Children: All About Duncan and Lexi Jones

Singer-songwriter David Bowie was one of the most legendary musicians of the 20th century, who changed the face of rock ‘n’ roll with mega hits and a flamboyant alter ego known as Ziggy Stardust. His greatest personal achievement, however, is his two children: Duncan and Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra Jones.

Bowie and his ex-wife, model and actress Angie Bowie, had a son, Duncan, in 1971. Later, the “Under Pressure” singer and his second wife, supermodel Iman, celebrated the arrival of daughter Lexi in 2000.

Five years later, PEOPLE visited their New York apartment, and Iman revealed how Bowie, born David Robert Jones, influenced their child’s life. In addition to Iman taking Lexi to music and dance lessons, Bowie would also play music with their daughter. “We are very normal,” Iman said at the time.

The “Let’s Dance” singer passed away at the age of 69 from cancer on January 10, 2016, and Duncan and Lexi have continued to honor their father’s memory ever since.

To celebrate the anniversary of Bowie’s death in 2018, she tattooed a moon with the words “Daddy xx” and his years of birth and death, “1947-2016.” Fast forward to 2021 and Duncan shared his heartfelt tribute to the late singer.

“Today we mark 5 years since dad died. We are all a little sad, we cope individually in our own way. But it is extraordinary and wonderful that dad is still so obviously loved by so many,” he wrote. on X (formerly Twitter). “Yes, he’s missed… but with so much ‘him’ in the works he’s done, he’s clearly still here ❤️.”

Bowie and Angie welcomed their first and only child together, Duncan Zowie Jones, on May 30, 1971 in England.

Although he was known as “Zowie Bowie” during his early years, he began using Duncan as a teenager.

According to guard, Duncan studied all over the world: he attended a top boarding school in Scotland before going to the US to study philosophy at a college “in rural Ohio”.

After that, he started working on his Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University, but eventually dropped out. When Duncan returned to England, he put his passion for film into practice and enrolled at the London International Film School, graduating in 2001.

The change seems to have paid off as Duncan is now an award-winning director, writer and producer. His first feature film was in 2009 Monthstarring Sam Rockwell. In the months that followed, the sci-fi film received critical acclaim, including a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.

Thinking about Month premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, Duncan said The Guardian that it was special for him and Bowie.

“It was pretty emotional for both of us because he was waiting for me to take mine off … and do what I’m going to do with my life,” he said. “I thanked him and said I really appreciated him giving me time to work out what I wanted, because it took me a long time.”

He has since directed another sci-fi thriller, source code, 2011, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and a fantastic movie Warcraft: The Beginning 2016, featuring Travis Fimmel, Ben Foster and Dominic Cooper.

Over the years, Bowie encouraged Duncan’s creativity on the big screen, even though he didn’t get a peek. “We skype every weekend and whenever I get a chance to go to New York, we meet,” Duncan said Daily Mail. “She can’t see the early version of my films. She sees it when it’s finished. But she’s very supportive and always has been.”

While building his own career, Duncan also had the support of his wife, photographer Rodene Ronquillo. According to her website, she photographed him for several magazine profiles and also documented a behind-the-scenes look at a press tour for Source code.

After getting engaged in June 2012, Duncan and Ronquillo tied the knot that November. The couple decided to elope spontaneously when Ronquillo was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 30s. She underwent surgery and chemotherapy, and years later they welcomed two children together.

In 2016, Duncan announced that he would become a father in bittersweet X post. “One month since dad died today… Due in June. Circle of life. Love you grandpa,” he wrote.

Duncan’s son, Stenton David Jones, was born on July 10, 2016, six months after Bowie’s death.

Less than two years later, Duncan announced the birth to the couple’s daughter, Zowie Tala Mabsie Jones, in April 2018. “It was about time SOMEONE used my middle name, even if I wasn’t ready!” he wrote on X.

When the “Starman” singer revealed that he and Iman were expecting their first child together, he expressed his desire to be a hands-on dad.

“It’s been a long and patient wait for our baby, but both Iman and I wanted the circumstances to be absolutely right and we didn’t want to find ourselves working non-stop for the first few years of the baby’s life. This is a wonderful time in our lives,” he said. is to the Associated Press (via CBS News).

Although Lexi grew up in the Big Apple, she kept her life relatively private – a decision encouraged by her mom. After being in the spotlight as a model herself for years, Iman advised Lexi to stay off the radar as long as possible.

Even though Lexi doesn’t work in front of the cameras, she’s still as creative as her parents. She is an artist who shares her drawings and paintings on Instagram. Lexi’s work features contrasting colors and abstract characters, which can be printed on clothing, bags and more.

According to her website, art is a form of meditation for Lexi, and by sharing her projects she hopes to inspire others to discover their own passions.

In addition to painting and writing poetry, Lexi is involved in music. In 2021, she shared a clip of her singing an untitled song she wrote herself.

“I’m absolutely terrified to post this. I keep going back and forth between hating it and loving it, but f*ck,” she captioned the post. “So here’s a clip of an untitled, unfinished, very drunk rough version of a song I’m proud of on a good day.”

More recently, to mark the anniversary of her father’s death in January 2023, Lexi uploaded a video of herself as a child playing the keyboard with Bowie, along with a shot of the two huddled under an umbrella.

The caption reads: “7 years ago today. I miss you ❤️.”
