Jeff and Stacey Sheppard, both former basketball players, raised their son Reed to follow in their footsteps and be a good basketball player. Reed Sheppard’s father, Jeffrey Kyle Sheppard, is a former professional college basketball player who was named Georgia Player of the Year in 1993 while attending McIntosh High School in Peachtree City. He played for the University of Kentucky and was named MVP of the 1998 NCAA Tournament in San Antonio.

Sheppard announced his retirement from basketball, citing the effect of the terrorist events of 9/11.
