Jeff and Stacey Sheppard, both former basketball players, raised their son Reed to follow in their footsteps and be a good basketball player. Reed Sheppard is currently a college basketball player competing for the Kentucky Wildcats in the Southeastern Conference. He is carrying on the family basketball tradition as his parents were standout players at the University of Kentucky.
Reed Sheppard began his basketball career at North Laurel High School in London, Kentucky, where he quickly established himself as a leading shooting guard. His outstanding performance led to incredible accomplishments, such as leading the state of Kentucky in scoring as a sophomore and being awarded the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior.
Sheppard continued to excel in his senior year, winning the title of Kentucky Mr. Basketball. His outstanding ability and accomplishments positioned him as a top 50 talent in the Class of 2023. Sheppard committed to play college basketball at Kentucky in November 2021, turning down offers from other prestigious colleges like Louisville and Virginia.

Reed Sheppard was born on June 24, 2004 in London, Kentucky to parents Jeff and Stacey Sheppard. He grew up in a basketball-loving family and was exposed to the sport at an early age. He had the advantage of receiving instruction from both parents, who were former basketball players.
Reed Sheppard’s father is a former basketball player
Reed Sheppard’s father, Jeffrey Kyle Sheppard, is a former professional college basketball player who was named Georgia Player of the Year in 1993 while attending McIntosh High School in Peachtree City. He played for the University of Kentucky and was named MVP of the 1998 NCAA Tournament in San Antonio.
He was also a member of Kentucky’s 1996 and 1998 national championship teams, led by Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith. Despite his prowess in college basketball, Sheppard’s professional career was not as successful. He had a brief stint in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Atlanta Hawks during the 1998–99 season, and although he played in preseason games with the Toronto Raptors in 2000, he did not appear in a single regular season game. Sheppard announced his retirement from basketball, citing the effect of the terrorist events of 9/11.
Jeff and Stacey were college sweethearts
Reed Sheppard’s parents were college sweethearts who attended the same institution and loved basketball. Reed’s mother, Stacey, also played basketball at the University of Kentucky. They had two children, Reed and Madison. They currently live in London, Kentucky, and are actively involved in various community endeavors. Madison, Reed’s sister, is a great athlete who attended North Laurel High School and contributed significantly to the basketball team. She majored in chemistry with a minor in biology and currently works as a post-acute business development representative for Trella Health.
