“Cobra” is Megan’s first single since her lawsuit against her former label 1501 Certified Entertainment was settled in October.

At the time, 1501 Certified Entertainment announced on social media that Megan and the label had “mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences” after more than three years of legal battle. (PEOPLE confirmed at the time that the case was settled in Megan’s favor.)

“Cobra” was instead released through Megan’s new independent music and entertainment outfit, Hot Girl Productions, which she says presented a “new challenge” for her.

“But it’s been really exciting and fulfilling so far,” Megan continues. “I really want to build an empire and grow as an entrepreneur – both in the music industry and in other areas like television and film – so it was an enlightening experience.”
