Meghan Markle didn’t realise Harry didn’t have much money & she wasn’t going to live in a palace, claims royal author

WHEN Meghan Markle started dating Prince Harry, she didn’t know she wouldn’t be living in a palace, according to royal writer Tom Bower.

Before the couple moved to California, they first lived together in a modest four-bedroom house, Nottingham Cottage, where Harry proposed to her.

They later moved to the five-bedroom Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Despite the £2.4 million renovation, the author claims the former Suits actress found it a “prison sentence”.

He told Closer!: “When she got involved with Harry, she didn’t realize he didn’t have a lot of money and wasn’t going to live in a palace.

“They had no pressure [to make a huge income while in the UK] when they didn’t have a really big house with a view of the Pacific.

“Meghan never wanted to live in a small house in England. For her, Frogmore was like a prison sentence.”

According to the Mirror, Meghan is worth an estimated £5 million thanks to her various television and film appearances.

Despite claims that “Harry didn’t have a lot of money,” the Duke of Sussex was worth somewhere between £19 million and £30 million before they left London, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

The couple moved across the pond in 2020 and now reside in posh Montecito, California in a £12 million mansion.

The sprawling nine-bed, 16-bath Santa Barbara home sits on 5.4 acres of land and features a library, office, spa, gym, game room, wine cellar and five-car garage.

The property also boasts immaculate lawns, multi-tiered rose gardens, tall Italian cypress trees, blooming lavender, olive trees, a tennis court, tearoom, children’s playhouse and swimming pool.

When they stepped down from royal duties, they said in a statement that they would be “financially independent” while they “figure out a progressive new role”.

Since then, they have sought to use their global fame to become financially independent.

They have invested an estimated £118m from the multimedia business, working with companies such as Spotify and Netflix.

The Prince and Princess of Wales lived full-time in the 20-room Suite 1A at Kensington Palace.

The London apartment is spread over four floors and includes five reception rooms, three master bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, as well as his and hers dressing rooms.

However, they recently left their genteel inner-city lifestyle for an idyllic lifestyle in the quieter Adelaide cottage in Windsor.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 41, moved Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, out in the summer of 2022 for a more rural life.

They reportedly spent about a year looking for a home in Windsor that would be close to a school they could all attend together.

They settled on Adelaide Cottage, The Sun first revealed, because they believed it didn’t need major renovations.

With its pink cotton candy exterior and wavy backing, the royal pillow looks like something out of a fairy tale.

It’s also perfect for the school run, being nine miles from Ascot where the children attend the £7,000-a-term Lambrook School.

There are only four bedrooms – one each for the children and the royal couple.
