Mehul was born on May 5, 1959 in Mumbai, India. He runs Gitanjali Gems Limited, one of India’s largest integrated diamond and jewelery retailers. The company also exports diamonds and jewelry products to international markets such as Italy, Antwerp, China, Japan, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Gitanjali has different jewelry products and diamond brands like Gili, Nakshatra, Asmi, D’damas, Maya, Diya, Sangini, Collection g, Gold Expressions, etc.

After graduation, Mehul started studying at Bombay University but he dropped out and started working with his father in 1975 in his diamond jewelery company Gitanjali Gems Limited. He later started running his father’s business and became a director of the company in 1998. this company.
On December 19, 2006, Gitanjali acquired Samuel Jewelers Inc., which operates a national chain of retail stores, and became Samuel’s majority shareholder and supplier partner. These 111 high-end stores come under Gitanjali. That same year, he launched the company’s initial public offering.

- In February 2018, the Punjab National Bank (PNB) filed a complaint against his nephew Nirav Modi, accusing him of defrauding the bank of around Rs 10 lakh. 11. 4 billion rupees. Mehul Choksi, Ami Modi (Nirav Modi’s wife) and Nishal Modi (Nirav Modi’s brother) were also reportedly involved in the fraud. The bank also alleged that they were fraudulently involved in issuance of bank guarantees or letters of undertaking (LoU) at the bank’s mid-cap branch at Brady House, Mumbai. The Law Enforcement Directorate is handling the case.
