Melanie Lynskey Praises Husband Jason Ritter for Doing 'So Much' for Their Family: 'A True Feminist' (Exclusive)

Melanie Lynskey has nothing but love and respect for her husband Jason Ritter!

While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Australians in Heath Ledger Awards ceremony on Tuesday, October 22, Yellow vests star, 47, admitted that balancing work and family “has been difficult,” but expressed her gratitude for Ritter — and the fact that his show Matlock is filmed in Los Angeles.

“It’s so wonderful that his job is in Los Angeles so our daughter has someone consistent to be at home with her,” Lysnkey shared. “We’re very lucky that we’re both working. It’s a really tough time in our industry, so a lot of our friends aren’t working. So I think we’re really lucky to be in the position that we are.”

She also noted that she and Ritter were “very lucky” to have a “great nanny” in both Los Angeles and Canada, where they both work.

“We can get help, which is like a huge, huge privilege. And so we definitely have a support team,” she said, before adding, “And then I have a great husband who’s really, like, a real feminist. He does so much. ”

When it comes to their careers, Lynskey said “there will always be some kind of sacrifice” because of the responsibilities that come with sharing their daughter. “We try to always have one of us at home with her because she’s at school now and can’t travel,” she explained. “That means you can’t take every job that comes in, which, you know, sometimes you have to make tough decisions, but we do the best we can.”

Before talking to PEOPLE, Lynskey was celebrating Matlock renewed for a second season and gave Ritter props for his role as Julian in the new legal drama.

“I am so proud of my husband!” she wrote on X. “This show is SO GOOD, Jason is amazing in it and Kathy Bates continues to be the pinnacle of greatness and everything I hope to be as an actress. Skye P Marshall is a superstar.”

Lynskey joked: “I would watch this even if it wasn’t a marital obligation.”
