From the shocking demise of agent Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander) in Season 2 to Jimmy’s wife Breena’s abrupt departure from COVD earlier in Season 18, NCIS has never been shy to kill off its characters. This did not, however, prepare viewers for the revelation in Episode 9 (“Winter Chill”) that Emily Fornell (Juliette Angelo), who had battled years of addiction, had passed away from an overdose.
Many viewers of the CBS procedural were shocked by the passing, so they were moved by Leon Vance’s (Rocky Carroll) elegy that was read near the end of the episode. Many people then turned to Google to see whether the poetry, which started with the lines “When I die/Give what’s left of me,” was true.
Yes, Merrit Malloy, a novelist and poet, wrote a poem with the title “Epitaph” that is pretty much based on reality. Many viewers praised NCIS on social media for its touching scene. One user tweeted, “I applaud NCIS for being real.” “There aren’t always happy endings in addiction.
