Meryl Streep’s Cardigan Is a Cozier Version of Reese Witherspoon’s — and It’s So Nancy Meyers-Coded

Unlike the 2009 film It’s complicated starring Meryl Streep, fall fashion is anything but — especially easy after seeing her recent outfits.

On Sept. 16, the 75-year-old actress was spotted out and about in Los Angeles in a look that was essentially the opposite of the boss suit she wore to the Emmys the night before. My first thought: Is she getting ready for another Nancy Meyers movie? Because her chunky cardigan, white jeans and button-down shirt were a textbook “seaside granny”.

The trend has grown in popularity recently, and we’ve seen it creep into all parts of celebrity outfits: in fact, Reese Witherspoon wore a cardigan as recently as late August, while white bottoms have graced the outfits of Oprah, Martha Stewart and Katie Holmes this year. And celebrities counted on buttoning and large bags.

Think you won’t wear something pink? Well, think again. Lately, I’ve been wearing my bubblegum clip more than my basic options. Amazon has a version similar to mine and Meryl’s, which has a “wonderful silky feel,” according to one customer. It’s also more affordable than the one I got, so I might pick up another one.

Last fall, I finally did I relented and bought a cardigan, a style I hadn’t worn since high school. I thought I wouldn’t get much wear out of it, but it’s actually become a staple in my wardrobe. Since autumn is coming, I want a similar one, but also a little thicker for maximum pleasant vibrations.

This one has buttons, so it can be worn multiple ways, and “the thickness is perfect and it doesn’t itch like other cardigans,” said one customer.
