Mgen Roy Galido Biography, Wikipedia, Wiki, Class – Major General (MGen) Roy Galido is a retired Philippine Army officer who served as Commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) from 2017 to 2020. He is a member of the Philippine Army Academy (PMA) Class in 1987

Galido was born in Iloilo City, Philippines on April 8, 1965. He graduated from PMA with a Bachelor of Science in Military Science. After graduating from PMA, Galido was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Philippine Army. During his career, he held various command and staff positions, including:

  • Commander of the 3rd battalion of scout rangers
  • Commander of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade
  • Chief of Staff of the 1st Infantry Division
  • Director, Joint Task Force Zamboanga
  • Commander, WestMinCom

Galido is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Star, Silver Star and Bronze Cross Medal. He is also a recipient of the Philippine Army Distinguished Service Medal.

Galido retired from the Philippine Army on September 2, 2020. He is currently the president of the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association (PMAA) – Western Mindanao Chapter.

These are some of the significant achievements of General Mag. Roy Galido:

  • He led the 3rd Battalion of Scout Rangers in the successful rescue of kidnapped victims of the 2010 Zamboanga City crisis.
  • He led the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade in the successful defeat of the Abu Sayyaf group in the Basilan campaign.
  • He led the Zamboanga Joint Task Force in the successful restoration of peace and order in Zamboanga City.
  • He led the WestMinCom in the successful implementation of the government’s peace process in Mindanao.

Master Roy Galido is a decorated soldier who has made significant contributions to the Philippine Army and to the peace and security of Mindanao. He is a role model for young officers and a credit to the Philippine Military Academy.

The Ministry of National Defense announced that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appointed Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido as the new commander of the Philippine Army.

Galido graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1990, according to DND.

He oversaw the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Mindanao Command as well as the 6th Infantry Division.

“His extensive experience and well-honed skills have resulted in significant victories for his command against lawless elements, especially in Mindanao,” the DND said.

“With Lt. Gen. Galida at the helm, the Philippine Army will undoubtedly and admirably follow the strategic path set by the Commander-in-Chief in the pursuit of the country’s stability amid a changing security landscape,” it continued.
