Mia Love, a former congress woman, mayor and political commentator, died at the age of 49.
The love death was announced by her family on Sunday, March 2nd, in the post on X. Love, the first black Republican chosen to Congress, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, 2022.
“With grateful hearts filled with overwhelming for the deep impact of Mia on our lives, we want you to know that she has passed away peacefully today,” the post began. “She was surrounded by a family in her home. In the midst of the celebration of her life and the avalanche of happy memories, Mia quietly slipped the band’s mortality and, as her words and visions always raised the sky.”
“We are grateful for many good wishes, prayers and condolences. We take some time as a family and provide information on funeral services and public celebration of our lives in the days to come,” the Post concluded.

The news comes after Love confirmed on March 11, 2025, that her cancer stopped responding to treatment, writing an open letter he had published Dessert News.
“My dear friends, fellow Americans and Utahns,” Love wrote. “I take my pen, not to say goodbye, but to tell you thank you and express my living desire for you and the America I know.”
She shared love that she and her family “transferred our focus from treatment, enjoying every moment and making memories with the time we have.” She thanked her teams of medical professionals, as well as family, friends and followers who abolished her in prayer, for expanding her life.

“We are not sure how long this season of my battle will be and I want to share, and some things with the world I believe in passionately,” she noticed. “I write all this as my” living desire “and hope for a” lasting desire “for you.”
“As a mayor, a member of the congress and the commentator’s media, I saw the worst small policies, the division of rhetoric and disappointing lack of moral character by some,” Love continued. “These same roles also gave me a seat in the first place and a backstage passage to bless them and inspire them with the courage, vision and hope of the best daughters, sons and citizens in America.”
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Hait Immigrants who did not speak English upon arrival in America, Lovein’s Life’s Stories was unimarachy with an American dream. She attended a school in Connecticut at a partial scholarship, graduated from the School of the University of Hartford Hartt with a music theater diploma.
After moving to Utah in 1998, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ the saints in recent days and married LDS missionary Jason Love. She also became active in local politics, winning a place at the Saratoga Springs 2003 City Council, before being elected mayor in 2009.
She then turned her attention to Congress, losing the headquarters of the house with a democratic contemporary Jim Matheson 2012 closely. But love was not distracted. She ran again in 2014, and this time she won the election to become the first Utah black at Capitol Hill.

Love served two terms in the House of Representatives and worked in particular in accounts focused on banking regulation, pyramid schemes and immigration. She was appointed to the House Financial Services Committee and joined the Congress Black Kauk.
After being closely defeated in 2018 due to the re -election, Love became an associate at CNN -Iia Occasional Conservative guest hosts on View. In the 2020 presidential election, she also voted as a coach for Utah.

Although she was diagnosed with her 2022, love publicly discovered her cancer trip in an interview with May 2024 with the host of CNN Jake Tapper. She shared at the time that she saw positive results from clinical immunotherapy test.
“Every scanning through which I go through, or not grow, or decrease a little,” she said about her tumor.
However, the forecast turned a different turnaround in early 2025, when her daughter Abigale published from her accounts on social media.
“Many of you are aware that Mom fought against GBM brain cancer,” Abigale shared on March 1. “Unfortunately, her cancer no longer responds to treatment and cancer progresses.”
In an open letter that Love published about her days of declining health, she shared her dreams for the future she would not have the opportunity to see.
“In the end, I hope my life will be important and made a difference for a nation I love both family and friends I adore,” she wrote. “I hope you will see America I know in the years ahead, that you will hear my words whisper the wind of freedom and feel my presence in the flames of permanent principles of freedom.”
“My living desire and an ardent prayer for you and for this nation is that the America I knew, America you struggle with for preservation and that every citizen, and every leader, will do its part to ensure that America we know will be America that our grandchildren and great grandchildren will inherit us,” she concluded.
Love survives her husband Jason and their three children: Alessa, Abigaile and Peyton.
