Michael Jackson’s story is coming to the big screen next year.
Lionsgate has announced that the upcoming biopic will Michael hits theaters April 18, 2025. The studio releases the film domestically and Universal releases the film abroad. The film will begin production on January 22, he reports Diversity.
“Michael will bring audiences a captivating and honest portrait of the brilliant but complicated man who became the King of Pop,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic level — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, displayed in his most vivid performances. Like never before, audiences will experience an inside look at one of the most influential, pioneering artists the world has ever known.”
Training dayThe film’s Antoine Fuqua is directing the upcoming production, and Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will play the “Thriller” singer. Jaafar is the son of Michael’s older brother Jermaine Jackson. He wrote the script Gladiatoris John Logan.
“It’s unheard of how much [Jaafar is] like Michael,” Fuqua told Entertainment Weekly. “He sounds like him, he dances like him, he sings. It’s really amazing. Graham King, who is a fantastic producer, found him and introduced him to me, and I was delighted.”

Graham King will produce alongside John Branco and John McClain, co-executors of Jackson’s estate. The biopic should cover all aspects of the singer’s life. It is currently unknown if the film will address Jackson’s controversies.
Allegations of child sexual abuse were made against Jackson near the end of his life and after his death. Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50.
In 2003, he was arrested on charges of child abuse, although he was acquitted of those charges in 2005. Jackson was accused by two people of sexual assault after he died in 2013. 2019 HBO documentary Leaving Neverland reviewed the charges.

Michael Jackson’s first studio recording to be released digitally
Recently, Jackson’s life has been adapted for the stage. On February 1, 2022. MJ: The musical premiered on Broadway and is a chronicle Bad singer’s creative process, focusing on the singer’s preparation for his 1992 dangerously World tour. The series was written by Lynn Nottage and directed and choreographed by Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon.
The series won four Tony Awards in 2022 — including Best Lead Actor in a Musical for Myles Frost, Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design for Wheeldon.
