Micheal Haley began his professional career on May 19, 2008, when he signed a two-way contract with the New York Islanders. He made his NHL debut with the Islanders against the New Jersey Devils on April 10, 2010 (at the end of the 2009–10 season). Haley later signed a two-year contract with the Islanders’ rival New York Rangers as a free agent on July 1, 2012. He spent two seasons with the organization. On July 10, 2014, he signed a two-year, two-way contract with the San Jose Sharks.
In his third season with the Sharks, he played his first full NHL season in 2016-17, amassing a career-high 2 goals, 10 assists and 12 points in 58 games while leading the Sharks in penalty minutes with 128. Haley left joined the Sharks as a free agent on July 1, 2017 and signed a two-year, $1.65 million contract with the Florida Panthers. Haley played in 24 games in the final year of his contract with the Panthers in 2018-19. before being waived by Florida on February 19, 2019. He was claimed the next day and would play again with the San Jose Sharks on February 20, 2019. He returned to the New York Rangers on October 1, 2019.
