Microsoft Office Installation-All You Need to Know

When it comes to creating documents, spreadsheets, presentations, no other tool has been able to match the efficiency of Microsoft Office. Developed by Microsoft, Office is a combination of server software, client software, and services.

In 1988, Office was launched with the aim of helping people in their official jobs where they have to create text documents, do calculations, etc. in their computer systems. Over time, it has become one of the most useful software packages and has more than 1.2 billion users worldwide.

You used to get a CD to install Microsoft Office, but that’s not the case anymore. You will receive a box containing a product code that can be redeemed at office.com/setup. You can now directly download and install your copy of the software from the Internet. If you know the correct way to do this, the process can be completed in minutes.

But before installation, you need to purchase, activate and download the product.

Buy an Office 365 subscription

Office 365 is a subscription service offered by Microsoft, and if you buy it, you’ll get regular program updates. If you have already purchased a subscription, you can proceed with the installation directly.

  1. Go to the Microsoft product page and click ‘Buy Office 365’ in the top right corner of the page.
  2. You will get four variants of Office 365 to choose from:

Office 365 Home: You get five c-computer installations, five smartphones/tablets, and up to five terabytes of online cloud storage for $99.99 per year.

Office 365 Personal: You get one PC install, one smartphone/tablet install, and one terabyte of online cloud storage for $69.99 per year.

Office Home & Student: With this bundle, you get Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for a one-time charge of $149.99.

  1. Once you’ve made your selection, click the ‘Buy Now’ green button under the Office subscription of your choice.
  2. Then click on ‘Pay’, the blue button in the bottom right corner of the page.
  3. Sign in to your MS account when prompted, or if you’re already signed in, you’ll still need to enter your password.
  4. As a final step, click ‘Place Order’ located on the right hand side of the page. After that, you get a one-year Office 365 subscription. After purchase, you can easily download and install it on your device.

Installing Office on Windows

  1. Sign in to your MS Office account page and your Office page will open.
  2. In the next step, enter your product key or activation code to confirm that the Microsoft product was purchased legally. For the activation key, you can refer to the physical packaging or the email about purchasing the product online.
  3. Click ‘Install’, the orange button under the subscription.
  4. Click ‘Save File’ and the Office setup file will begin downloading. (If you are using the student version of MS Office, please skip this step.)
  5. After the file is downloaded, double-click the file from the download location on your computer.
  6. Press ‘Yes’ when prompted and the setup will start installing on your device.
  7. The installation may take a few minutes to complete.
  8. When the installation is complete, click Close to complete the process and from then on you can start using the office programs.

Install Office on a Mac

Installation of MS Office on Mac devices can be done as follows:

  1. Sign in to your MS Office account and you will be redirected to your Office purchase page.
  2. Then click the orange button under the subscription name that says ‘Install’.
  3. Click ‘Install’ again to start the download process of the Microsoft Office setup file.
  4. Go to your Mac’s Dock and open ‘Finder’, the blue face-shaped application.
  5. Then click the ‘Downloads’ folder on the left side of the Finder window, or if your file was downloaded to another location, click that folder.
  6. Double-clicking the Office setup file will start the installation.
  7. If you receive an error that there is a problem with the installation, you should verify your download before proceeding.
  8. Double-click Continue in the lower right corner of the window.
  9. Then, to accept Microsoft’s terms of use, click “I agree.”
  10. Press ‘Continue’ and then click ‘Install’ in the bottom right corner of the window.
  11. Enter the password for your Mac.
  12. After entering the password, click ‘Install Software’ in the bottom right corner of the window. This will start the installation of Microsoft Office on your Mac and the process may take a while to complete.
  13. Once the programs are fully installed on your device, click ‘Close’ when prompted.
