Mid-air horror as drunk easyJet passenger tries to storm cockpit at 30,000 feet

TERRIFIED EasyJet passengers watched in horror after a man tried to fly into the cockpit at 30,000ft.

Pilots declared a Mayday and ordered an emergency landing after a drenched flyer struggled with cabin crew – and tried to open the door mid-flight.

Pandemonium erupted on flight EZY8235, which departed Gatwick Airport for the Greek island of Kos on Tuesday.

Families clung to their seats as a drunken passenger smashed the in-flight intercom and was restrained by airline staff.

The man was wrestled to the floor by the team and other tourists, who received a big round of applause.

After the jet flew through the turbulence, the passenger told the frightened tourists that the captain was “rubbish” and that he was taking over.

The 4am service was diverted to Munich at 6.50am after an alarming security breach.

After the flight deck team raised the alarm, police and emergency services lined the runway in Germany to greet the Airbus A320.

Officers boarded the plane upon arrival and ejected the troubled passenger – who was wearing a black T-shirt, short jeans and white sneakers – from the plane.

A photo obtained by The Sun shows the handcuffed black-haired robber lying at the foot of the plane’s steps on the runway as he is formally arrested and taken away.

Distraught passengers spoke of their anger as the young man drank whiskey before and during the early morning flight.

A woman initially believed to be his girlfriend apologized to people sitting nearby that he had had “one too many” – but later revealed she had nothing to do with him.

Tearful passengers were forced to disembark in Munich and find hotels – 2,500 miles from their Greek hotspot.

Dozens of passengers stayed at a local Marriott hotel Tuesday night and were left waiting to hear about a connecting flight to Greece on Wednesday.

A source said: “It was a harrowing and distressing ordeal. Everyone feared the worst when a man tried to break into the cockpit.

“It’s every flyer’s worst nightmare, and this was a holiday flight full of young families.

“The man was so drunk and outraged that he had been allowed to board the plane so drenched, let alone continued to drink.

“He was seen hugging what appeared to be whiskey from a glass bottle on the plane. How was this allowed to happen?”

EasyJet said: “While such incidents are rare, we do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour.”

Air rage is at an all-time high, and last week Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary blamed the high level of flight delays – as well as passengers taking drugs and alcohol.

The boss of Europe’s biggest low-cost airline continued to call for a two-drink limit at European airports.
