Career
Mike Gundy was the quarterback for the Oklahoma State University Cowboys while he was in college. In 1990, he started his collegiate coaching career as a wide receivers coach at his alma school. Gundy was moved to quarterbacks coach in 1991, and then to offensive coordinator a second time in 1994. He departed five years later to teach quarterbacks at Baylor and then wide receivers at Maryland.
Bob Simmons, the official coach, resigned in 2001. Miles and Mike Gundy were the finalists at the time. As a result, they were appointed as head coaches and coordinators, respectively. Miles departed in 2004 to assume the position at LSU. Gundy was Oklahoma State’s 22nd head coach at the time. Gundy is also one of Oklahoma State’s three head football coaches. As a coach, he had a 4-7 record, winning just one Big 12 conference game. In the second season, the Cowboys likely conclude with a 7-6 triumph against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Independence Bowl.
In 2007, they went 6-6 during the regular season and won the Insight Bowl against the Indiana Hoosiers. So, following their second consecutive bowl participation in 2013, Mike was rewarded with a contract extension. He has 59 victories against the Cowboys up to 2008. He then won at Oklahoma State from 2011 until 2017. Gundy was a part of eight of Oklahoma State’s nine 10-win seasons, two as a player and six as the head coach.
