Miles Teller Says Michael Jackson ‘Deserves’ Movie About Him ‘Regardless of What Your Opinion May Be’ About Late Star

Miles Teller talks candidly about his upcoming project.

Speaking with Diversity at Vanity Fair’s Oscars party on Sunday, the actor shared his excitement about the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. Last month, it was announced that Teller, 37, would play John Branca, Jackson’s former manager, current co-executor of the star’s legacy and producer of the film.

Teller said before accepting the role that he took into account the child sexual abuse allegations against Jackson.

“You only get so many opportunities to make movies in this business,” the actor added. “I’m really excited to be a part of it. I think it will blow people away.”

The Top Gun: Maverick the star shared how she prepares for the role. “I think you’re just trying to overwhelm yourself with as much information as you can.”

He revealed that he had met Branco, the man he plays, adding: “I got to hang out with him a bit.” Teller also said he met with director Antoine Fuqua and producer Graham King. “I mean, there’s really an amazing team involved.”

“Regardless of what you know or what your opinion is, Michael is one of the greatest to ever do it, if not the greatest,” the actor said. “He deserves a movie, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

He also expressed his excitement to be part of a large ensemble. “I just love being part of a team if you come from a theater background; I think the word ensemble means a lot.”

The Lionsgate feature has a large cast, with multiple actors playing the same characters over the years.

The Grammy winner will be played by the late singer’s 27-year-old nephew Jaafar Jackson, while the young Jackson will be played by nine-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi. Colman Domingo will play the singer’s father and former manager Joe Jackson, and Nia Long will play alongside him Joe’s wife Katherine Jackson.

Jamal R. Henderson will play Jermaine Jackson and Jayden Harville will play the young version. Tre Horton will play Marlon Jackson and Jaylen Lyndon Hunter will be the younger version of Marlon.

Ryhan Hill has been cast as Tito Jackson, while Joseph David-Jones has been cast as Jackie Jackson, and Judah Edwards and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre will play the younger versions of Tito and Jackie, respectively.

“The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic level – from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, displayed in his most iconic performances,” the statement continued.
