Millie Bobby Brown talks about how Jake Bongiovi proposed to her.
The 20-year-old actress, who has been engaged to son Jon Bon Jovi since April 2023, appeared on Thursday’s episode of the show. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“Well, I haven’t told anybody because there are moments, key moments, but I think, ‘Fallon is the best,’ and I also think this is too good a story not to tell,” Brown said. “Mainly, Jake and I bonded over diving. We love diving, we got our driver’s licenses together.”
She added that when they were on vacation, Bongiovi, 21, said, “Mil, you have to get up at 8:00 a.m., let’s go diving.”

“I was like, ‘8 in the morning, diving?’ … And he tells me, ‘We’re going to the same place we usually go,'” Brown continued. “I say, ‘It’s boring, let’s go somewhere new.’ He said, ‘No, we have to go to this place,'” she added.
After arriving at the scene, Stranger Things the star explained that they dived many meters under water.
“It gives me like a shell and I love it, turn it over and it’s a ring,” she recalled. “And I like him, I looked at him and he was like that,” Brown said as she recreated his facial expressions and bubbles from Bongiovi not being able to talk underwater.
Giving a thumbs up, she said, “This means ‘up’, ‘I want to go up.’ So that would technically mean, ‘No, I don’t want to marry you, I want to go upstairs.’ ”

“So I was like okay,” Brown explained as she performed the “okay” hand sign. “And I think it was unremarkable, but we went crazy.”
“Anyway, he put the ring on my hand and when I went to show him, the ring fell off my finger, fell like, so fast, it was like a movie,” she said, adding, “Jake threw himself, like deep , as the diver said: ‘You can’t do it, like your ears … your brain will literally explode.’ ”
Brown went on to describe how Bongiovi dove into the water and “cinematically grabbed, opened and saved the ring.”
She went on to say that she feels “it’s a reflection of who he is and I feel like we’re always going to have each other’s backs and if somebody drops the ball, we’ve got it.”

Meanwhile, Brown explained that after Bongio’s rescue of the ring, they surfaced, allowing him to ask for her hand in marriage.
After Brown said, “Yes,” Bongiovi explained that he asked Brown’s mother if he could take her proposal ring, however, Brown’s mother said, “Absolutely not, Jake. You’re not going to take my ring down there, I know you’re going to fall out.” In the end, Bongiovi performed an underwater proposal with a different ring, presenting Brown with his mother’s ring on the ship.
“So when we got on the boat, he said, ‘This is your mom’s ring and I got it from your parents,'” Enola Holmes the star recalled. “It was very magical and his parents were there and we looked so disheveled coming out of the dive.”
Brown and the Bongios first sparked romance rumors in June 2021 after he shared a selfie on her Instagram with the caption “bff <3."
