But what you’re actually seeing is a curious phenomenon that gives the road the appearance of a slight incline, despite going in the opposite direction.
Known locally as ‘Electric Brae’, the section is an example of a rare ‘gravity hill’.
They are called that because the ground makes the road appear to go up, when it actually goes down.
This special road has attracted car enthusiasts from all over the world who are curious about its unique features.
Over the years, theories about the path have ranged from electromagnetic fields, the influence of minerals in the soil, and even a curse imposed by witches.
But for those who are afraid of the supernatural, fear not because it is just an optical illusion.
A roadside headstone reads: “Although there is a 1 in 86 grade from the bend to the valley, the lay of the land on either side of the road provides an optical illusion that makes it appear as though the grade is going downhill from another.” manner.
“Therefore, a car stopped on the road with the brakes off will appear to be moving slowly uphill.”
It comes after a terrifying optical illusion tricked drivers into believing a gaping hole had appeared in the middle of a busy highway.
The clip garnered millions of views on Twitter, as many admitted to feeling a roller coaster of emotions while watching it.
One person admitted: “You had me.”
Another wrote: “That other car had my heart in my throat man. Damn.”
Someone else said: “I got really scared when the second car sped up behind the first.
“If I ever see something like this, I’m definitely going to back off without blinking twice, I can’t risk my precious life.”
