Thuong Nguyen was walking on the treadmill at LifeTime Fitness in Eagan, Minn., when she suddenly collapsed.
According to CBS News Minnesota , the person exercising next to her — who happened to be a surgeon — jumped into action and began administering CPR. With his help, as well as the help of gym employees Colter Porter and Cori Benson, the woman’s life was saved.
“All I could think of was we need to save this woman,” Benson, who helped operate the defibrillator, told the newspaper.
“It feels good to help save someone,” added Porter.

After the incident, Thuong was taken to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had a genetic heart condition. Her family said she is now home and recovering.
“She’s just looking forward to being able to cook again, hold her grandchildren,” said Kimberly Caron, Nguyen’s daughter.
Nyguen’s other daughter, Van Truong, added that it was fortunate that the person on the treadmill next to her mother was a doctor.
“Somehow an angel or someone asked that doctor to wake up that day and said, ‘You’re going to be on LifeTime, you’re going to be standing next to my mom exercising, and she’s going to collapse, and you’re going to save her,'” Truong said. – It’s definitely a miracle, that’s for sure.
CBS News Minnesota spoke to the surgeon, who remained anonymous, for comment.
“I feel very blessed that something that could have turned out a lot worse turned out the way it did, so I’m very grateful to have been there,” he told them.
He also added that people should know where the AED defibrillators are.
