Police Scotland confirmed extensive searches were already underway with drones and helicopters as temperatures plunged to -14C.

The sisters, originally from Hungary, now live in the British city and last spoke to their mother on Saturday.

Their brother Jozsef told the BBC that they had a 40-minute conversation and that everything seemed normal.

Eliza and Henrietta’s triplet Edit Huszti said she also spoke to her sisters on New Year’s Eve and they seemed happy.

She added that it is not their style to go out on the streets in the early hours because they prefer to stay at night.

Officers are being assisted by expert search consultants at the scene.

Police dogs and a marine unit are also involved in the action.

CCTV footage captured the sisters in Market Street walking across Victoria Bridge for the last time, before heading towards the footpath next to the River Dee.

They were heading in the direction of the Aberdeen Boat Club.

There are “commercial and industrial units” in the area where Eliza and Henrietta disappeared, according to police.

They were described as white, of slim build, with long, brown hair.

Chief Inspector Darren Bruce from Police Scotland has urged local businesses in the South Esplanade and Menzies Road area to check CCTV footage.

He said: “Extensive inquiries are underway to trace Eliza and Henrietta and searches are being carried out in and around the area where they were last seen.

“Searches are ongoing here and we would urge businesses in and around the South Esplanade and Menzies Road area to review their CCTV footage for the early hours of January 7 and contact us if it contains anything that may be relevant to our investigation.

“We are also asking anyone who has dash cam footage from that time to get in touch.”

Police have asked anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 0735 of Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
