Missouri Firefighters Rescue Injured Bald Eagle While on Another Call

The eagle eyes of Missouri firefighters rescued a captive bald eagle.

On Monday, firefighters from the Mid-County Fire Protection District (MCFPD) were dispatched to a helicopter landing to assist in the transfer of patients. They saw something unusual there, according to a statement on the MCFPD Facebook page.

“During this intervention, the ambulance being assisted noticed a cruiser eagle in the line of the ditch,” the press release said.

“MCFPD units assisted the helicopter in landing and takeoff to transport the patient. After the emergency call ended, EMS and MCFPD units returned to assist the eagle,” MCFPD continued.

Because firefighters were more familiar with rescuing people than birds, MCFPD contacted the Missouri Department of Conservation for help.

“The animal was injured and was taken to our station to await conservation agents,” the statement explained. The rescue post also included photos of the first shots holding the bird and smiling.

“The Missouri Department of Conservation took the animal into custody and transported the bald eagle to Columbia for care,” the statement concluded.
