Mitul Trivedi-Impostor

On August 30, 2023, the Surat Crime Branch arrested tutor Mitul Trivedi for posing as an ISRO scientist for media interviews, claiming that he designed Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander. Additionally, Trivedi forged documents and letters to support his claims. In ISRO’s fake appointment letter dated February 26, 2022, he claimed to be the Assistant Chairman, Ancient Science Applications Department, ISRO. In another letter, Trivedi claimed to be a space research member of ISRO’s upcoming project titled ‘Mercury Power in Space’. On August 24, the day after India’s Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the south pole of the moon, Trivedi accepted an interview with PTI news agency. In the interview, he said:

The police took action after submitting an application to the Commissioner of Police to investigate the matter. Police revealed that Trivedi admitted that he drafted the letter to attract more students to enroll in his courses. His aim was to impress the students’ parents by showing them the forged documents. An FIR was registered against Trivedi under sections 465, 468, 471 and 419 of IPC. When Mitul Trivedi’s scam hit the headlines in 2023, he had been impersonating NASA and ISRO scientists for about 10 years. In a Facebook post on January 5, 2017, Mitul Trivedi claimed to be a “NASA and ISRO scientist, archaeologist and historian” of an incident.
