MLB player Jake Cronenworth got married!
The San Diego Padres player, 30, married sports journalist and former Miss Georgia USA Brooke Fletcher at The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya, Mexico, on Saturday, January 18. The couple’s weekend wedding celebration began on Friday, January 17th with a fun welcome party and ended on Sunday, January 19th with a farewell pool party.
“Overall, our wedding weekend was in keeping with the locale and really celebrated Mexico and its vibrancy with Mayan culture,” the bride tells PEOPLE.

She adds that their itinerary “mimicked the circular Mayan calendar” and that they “incorporated a ‘circle of life’ theme,” which inspired the resort’s architecture, such as by incorporating native plants and organic flowers into their events.
A couple from Chicago wanted to “escape the winter” and provide a “fun vacation” for their 130 guests. The purposeful architecture of St. Regis is what the newlyweds especially liked.
“Given the way the design of the resort symbolizes marriage and life, we felt compelled to have it in such a significant location,” says the bride, who hosts the Chicago Sports Network. Chicago Lead and covers college football on the Big Ten Network.
The luxury beachfront estate is built in a natural mangrove reserve. The layout of the Mayan calendar is represented through the resort’s circular buildings, which reflect the position of the Pleiades constellation. The Ceiba trees that surround it are sacred in Mayan culture because they are believed to connect the earth, the underworld and the sky.

As the Mayans believed in a circular way of life, every detail of the resort “reflects the journey of marriage and life, and brings everything full circle,” notes Fletcher.
“But perhaps the most important component of our wedding was making sure others enjoyed the experience as much as we did,” she adds. “Jake and I really care about seeing our closest friends and family happy.”

During a first look before the ceremony, Fletcher and Cronenworth exchanged vows privately.
“We wanted to have an intimate, personal moment just for us to enjoy before the big event,” says Fletcher.

She later walked down the aisle to the classic “Oceans X Goodness of God” combo. Fittingly, she wore an Ines Di Santo dress that mimics the movement of ocean waves. Her hair and makeup were done by Alyssa Lalagos, Sandy Mendez and Alejandra Llamas.
As she walked down the aisle, Fletcher carried a special heirloom – a handkerchief passed down from her mother’s side of the family because her grandfather and his brother brought it back from World War II. Every woman on my mother’s side wore it at their weddings. Now it was her turn to continue the tradition.
The “deeply personal” ceremony was officiated by Gordon Beckham, the bride’s brother-in-law and former MLB player. But he’s not the only one in Fletcher’s family to have been a professional baseball player.
Her father, Scott, is a former MLB star who played in the league for 15 years, primarily for the Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers. While Scott was with the Rangers, former President George W. Bush became a fan and named his dog “Spot Fetcher” after him.

Her brother also played baseball for Auburn University and later in the minors for the Kansas City Royals. Eric Hosmer, a former teammate of her brother and Cronenworth, introduced the bride and groom. After a few DMs, their relationship “took off”, prompting Cronenworth to propose in their home by candlelight surrounded by their families in early February 2024.
“We are each other’s best friends. We are excited for the new adventures that await us and to grow and experience life together,” says Fletcher. “Ultimately, we’re excited to spend our lives with each other.”
The newlyweds danced their first dance to the song “Loved by You” by KIRBY. For their afterparty, Fletcher changed into a Nette BenShabu dress.
Dinner was served at the wedding reception. Guests enjoyed a watermelon salad for starters, then chose between filet mignon, chicken breast or mushroom risotto for their main course before diving into slices of four-tiered vanilla wedding cake and scoops of mango sorbet topped with Tajín. Everyone was also welcome to have a drink at the open bar.

Everything on the menu during the wedding weekend was excellent. Food at the welcome party “paid homage to Mexican culture” and included ceviche, tacos, guacamole and churros.

Since music is their “language of love”, the couple also made sure of good music during “one big celebration”.
Friday began as “competition day” with the women playing tennis while the men played golf at the El Camaleon LIV golf course. That night they headed to the resort’s welcome dinner and had the honor of performing the ritual of St. Regis sabrage (opening a champagne bottle with a saber) and local music by Jesus and Julissa from Nativo Producciones was played at the welcome party.

At the wedding on Saturday, Taylor Pace’s orchestra from the Jordan Kahn Music Company flew in as the headline band. Dulce Rullán, a local famous Mexican DJ, spun songs at the afterparty.
The wedding celebration ended on Sunday with a farewell pool party at the hotel’s Jack’s Club, which was temporarily transformed into “Jake’s Club”. “Sunday Funday” focused on all things sports, including football viewing fun and fun club games.
The wedding was planned by Brianne Garritano of Michigan Avenue Events.
On their honeymoon, Cronenworth and Fletcher go to Saint Barthélemy. After that, they plan to continue working, which requires living in separate cities for some parts of the year. Ultimately, they “want to have children and settle down close to family.”
“With our crazy work schedules that require a lot of travel and sometimes separate lives throughout the year, I think the one constant is having that person who feels like home, no matter where you lay your head at night,” says Fletcher. “We both know that we have found it in each other and that we have each found our teammate for life.”
