Mohan started his career while still in college. In 1982, he served as joint secretary of the students’ union of Madhav Science College. In 1984, he became the president of the students’ union of Madhav Science College and the municipal minister of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Ujjain.
