Moment Huw Edwards is confronted by stepdad of boy ‘he paid for explicit pics’ after BBC star travelled to meet him

THIS is the moment predator Huw Edwards was filmed at a busy train station by a furious stepfather after he paid his child £35,000 for sexual images.

It happened in May last year and led to the initial Sun story that first exposed the 62-year-old’s seedy secret life.

The former presenter of Vijesti u ten admitted this week that she received videos of sexual abuse of children as young as seven.

Our new revelation comes as BBC colleagues – including former royal editor Jennie Bond – have called on Edwards to return the £200,000 salary he received after his arrest last November.

The stepfather of a young man who was paid £35,000 by Huw Edwards for sexual images has revealed the extraordinary moment he tried to confront a newsreader at a train station.

He rushed there after his partner alerted him to a secret meeting between the then presenter of Vijesti u ten and her vulnerable child.

Coincidentally, the mother saw messages from Edwards in which he suggested he wanted the young man to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

The stepfather told The Sun: “I was so angry. I just wanted to confront him and tell him to stop doing what he was doing.

“I didn’t even care if I got arrested – I wanted everyone to know what was going on.”

However, he arrived at the wrong platform but managed to film Edwards across the tracks before the stone-faced BBC star boarded another train.

The stepfather then immediately launched a formal complaint to the BBC about the TV star, but when he was dismissed he turned to The Sun for help.

This week Edwards, 62, pleaded guilty in court to receiving videos of sexually abusing children as young as seven.

People blindly defended Huw Edwards simply because the Sun, a ragtag broadcaster, first published the allegations

He faces the possibility of jail time when he reappears in court next month.

Last night, the stepfather, whose identity we are protecting, said of the disgraced reader: “I always knew he was a pedophile.

“I hate it if he doesn’t go to prison and only gets a suspended sentence. He was a predator for years.”

His stepson, who had substance abuse problems, was 17 when Edwards started paying them for sex pictures.

And a dramatic row on the railway at Cardiff Central in May last year was sparked by a young man, then 20, who stormed out of the family home after an argument with their mum.

They said they would meet Edwards to get the £500.

The young man had earlier borrowed his mother’s iPhone to check their messages on Instagram.

However, fatefully — and unknown to both of them — the app was still connected to Mom’s iWatch.

The stepfather recalled: “About ten minutes after the little girl left the house with my partner’s old iPhone, her Apple Watch vibrated on her wrist. She looked down and was shocked to see Huw Edwards’ name flashed next to a direct message on Instagram.

“At that point she realized her child was still logged into the app on her phone. She opened the Instagram app and went into messages.

“There was a chat with @thehuwedwards that she opened.

“And she was shocked to discover that Edwards was planning to meet her child at the train station.

“She called me – I was working nearby – and I said I’d go and try to get them.”

He said the messages also revealed Huw wanted the young man to “sign some sort of non-disclosure agreement to keep quiet about their relationship”.

He continued: “I drove up as fast as I could and told the train guards outside the barriers that I was there to meet someone from London and could I go on the platform?

“They told me it was platform three, but when I went up, the train was not coming. I couldn’t see him so I left.”

The stepfather started to drive back to work when his partner called him again and told him that she saw from the texts that Edwards had just arrived at the station.

The stepfather recalled: “I rushed back and ran to the station.

“I saw him go through the ticket barriers. I went up to platform three again, but there was no one there. It was a big panic.

“Then I saw him on the opposite platform. I took out my phone and started recording it.”

He took 30 seconds of footage of the BBC star waiting on a platform, which was seen by The Sun.

His stepfather yelled at him before Edwards, wearing a jacket and a bag under his arm, hurried out.

He said: “I just wanted to tell him to leave my partner’s child alone and stop sending money.”

Meanwhile, his partner texted her child that his stepfather was on his way to the station.

It is believed this was passed on to Edwards who then boarded the next train to London without the meeting.

The stepfather said at the time that he tried to lodge a complaint with the BBC offices but was initially misled.

He recalled: “Unable to face him, I walked straight out of the station and went to the BBC.

“I tried to explain what was happening. But the security guards at the door said I was aggressive. I didn’t, but I was so excited. I was panicked, I wasn’t aggressive.

“I asked to speak to a manager or a director, anyone who worked at the BBC, but they said there was nobody and they were all in London.

“Someone came out and said he was the head of the security team. I shouted, ‘I want to speak to someone about Huw Edwards because he’s a groomer’. They gave me the number for BBC London.

“It turned out to be the wrong number. I think they just wanted to take me away.”

The family was eventually referred to the BBC’s Viewing Service, which referred the case to its corporate investigations team.

The BBC later admitted that it had made one phone call to the couple but had not connected.

The family then approached The Sun in the hope that we could help them get Edwards to stop.

We published a shocking story in July last year in which it is stated that an unnamed BBC star paid a young man for sexual images.

Edwards was suspended amid a media frenzy, before his wife nominated him.

The BBC has launched an investigation into its star presenter, who announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II and led coverage of the King’s coronation.

Meanwhile, a report released in February by auditors Deloitte detailed how the family’s complaint was not brought to the attention of senior managers.

There was also “insufficient” documentation of attempts to contact them.

In April, Edwards resigned and the family are still begging the BBC for answers after they closed their investigation.

The stepfather said: “From that first day of trying to face Huw to this day, we have not stopped — no matter how hard it has been. Now everyone knows the truth.”

He added: “We want a public apology from anyone who has ever doubted us or targeted us for speaking out.”

The BBC continued to pay Edwards his £480,000 license fee-funded salary until he quit.

Amid clamor for part of the disgraced star’s salary to be returned, questions have been raised about how much the BBC knew when it learned of his arrest last November over child sex images.
