Money Heist Berlin Spinoff Trailer Reveals High-Stakes Jewel Theft

A new teaser for Berlin, Netflix’s upcoming Money Heist spinoff show, hints at a new storyline involving a high-stakes jewel heist and reveals the show’s release window. Creator Álex Pina’s Money Heist first hit Netflix in 2017, quickly becoming a major hit for the streamer. The popularity of the Spanish-language show has led to a spinoff, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, which was released last year. Now, Berlin, a spinoff focused on the character of the same name from the original show, is set to expand the world of the series even further.

After previously revealing Berlin‘s new cast of characters with a brief teaser last fall, Netflix has now shared another look at the second upcoming spinoff.

The brief teaser features Pedro Alonso, who last played Berlin, aka Andres de Fonolloso, in Money Heist season 5, back in action once more planning a new heist. The video teases that Berlin will be carrying out a carefully-planned jewel heist in “the city of love,” and that a mysterious woman may play a crucial role in the story. The teaser also reveals that audiences can expect the show to release in December of this year.

Everything We Know About Berlin

Berlin sacrificed his life during season 2 of Money Heist, but the character had proven so popular that he returned in seasons 3 through 5 during various flashback sequences. Since the character is technically dead during the main show’s current timeline, Berlin will serve as a prequel, chronicling a major heist that he undertakes before eventually meeting the Professor (Álvaro Morte), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), and the rest of the gang. As for the show’s setting, Netflix’s use of the phrase “city of love” seemingly confirms that Paris will be a central backdrop for Berlin’s big jewel heist.

Love, it seems, will play a large role in Berlin. Pina, who also created Berlin, previously revealed that the show will be “a trip through the golden age of the character, when he robbed around Europe crazy in love.” He also teased that the upcoming spinoff will be surprisingly funny, a departure from the often more serious mothership series.

In addition to Alonso, the Money Heist spinoff will also feature an impressive cast of new characters, including those played by Marcel Gonzalez, Miko Jarry, Tristán Ulloa, Michelle Jenner, Julio Peña, and Begoña Vargas, among others. It’s unclear whether any fan-favorite characters from the original show will be making their return, but it’s certainly possible that some familiar faces will pop up. As the release date inches closer, it’s likely that Netflix will release more information about Berlin, including a full-length trailer.
