Fans were quick to shower Monty with happy birthday messages. One replied: “*singing* Happy birthday….Dear Ned… Happy xx birthday.” Another follower sweetly wrote: “He’s turning into a handsome guy. Happy Birthday Ned!”

Many of Monty’s fans also shared their birthday wishes, with some referring to the presenter’s late dog Nigel.

“Happy birthday Ned. Nigel will be proud of you too,” said a third fan. Another echoed this, writing: “Hopefully he gets a lot of press. Reminds me of the number of tennis balls Nigel used to have.”

The TV star’s dog, Nigel, sadly passed away in 2020 after suddenly falling ill. After his death, the presenter paid tribute to his “old friend” on social media, revealing that up until the last minute Nigel was “happy, healthy, and beautiful and calm as usual”.

Monty always talks about how much his animals mean to him. His official website reads: “I’ve lived with dogs all my life, so it’s normal for me to have a dog or two anywhere in the garden. It’s their garden as much as mine or that of any other family member.”

He continued: “I think it’s obvious that, for the most part, they’re completely harmless and completely respectful of the garden. They (rarely) dig holes or go through flower beds. They treat long roads like bowling alleys that they swoop down in search of the ball we’re about to throw, but it’s harmless enough.”
