  • An animal rescuer in Texas found 63 Chihuahuas living in two cars in a garage with their owner
  • The unnamed owner was hesitant to leave the dogs until she found a rescue that would take them all in

More than 60 chihuahuas who were found living in two cars in a garage with their owner are on their way to finding forever homes.

Animal rescuer and owner of Lorraine, Texas pet adoption service Save A Tiny Adoptables Sheenna Trahan described the conditions in which she found the 63 chihuahuas living on NBC 10 WJAR.

“There was no running water, no electricity in the house, and again, none of the vehicles were running,” she said of the home she visited in mid-January, where the owner lived with Chihuahuas in vehicles parked in the garage.

More than 70 dogs rescued from flooded properties where pets were tied up and stranded for days

Trahan called the situation she discovered in Comanche, Texas, “nasty,” but said the unnamed owner was reluctant to leave the dogs until she found a rescue to take them all in.

“If we hadn’t been able to get all those dogs out of there, she would have stayed right there with them and probably all of them would have died together in the vehicles,” Trahan said. Some of the dogs are said to be occasionally let out of the vehicle for a walk, but others are said to have spent their entire lives until rescue in the vehicles.

After the rescue, the dogs, who had not received medical care or vaccinations, were examined and some had fleas, but were otherwise found to be in good health despite their previous living conditions.

Some of the dogs are medically evaluated before being sent to one of several pet rescue locations around the country, including Rhode Home Rescue in Rhode Island. He called the conditions the dogs were rescued from “appalling” in a News 14 article.
