Sanaa Riggins was found unresponsive in her father’s bed after being exposed to heroin, police said
Mother from St. Louisa is charged with the death of her four-year-old daughter.
On Saturday shortly after 18:20 local time, the St. Louis found 4-year-old Sanau Riggins unresponsive at her father’s house, Fox 2 Now reported. She was urgently transferred to the children’s hospital St. Louis where she was pronounced dead shortly before 7:30 p.m.
Police said their preliminary investigation revealed Riggins died of a drug overdose from heroin, which was found near the bed she was in, according to local newspaper KSDK.
Riggins’ mother, Christina Huntspon, admitted to police that she used heroin in the home earlier Saturday and said her heavy drug addiction was the likely cause of her daughter’s death because no one else would have brought the drugs inside, the paper reported.
Riggins lived with her father, who had legal custody of her, due to Huntspon’s drug addiction. The child’s father showed no signs of drug use, according to Fox 2 Now.
Investigators also said Riggins was born under the influence of controlled substances.
