Mukesh Madhavan started his acting career in the film Ballon in 1982. In 1985, he acted in the film Mutharamkunnu PO, directed by Sibi Malayil. He then acted in a series of slapstick comedies like Ponnum Kudathinu Pottu, Akkare Ninnoru Maran, Boeing Boeing and Odaruthammava Aalariyaam. In 1989, Ramji Rao Speaking, directed by Siddique-Lal, became his career breakthrough. The film established him as a leading actor in the Malayalam film industry. The duo of Siddique-Lal was like a lucky charm for him and they acted in several hits like In Harihar Nagar, The Godfather, Hitler, Chronic Bachelor and Friends.
Mukesh Madhavan played the role of CBI officer Chacko in four films of the CBI series directed by K. Madhu. His role was a big hit. Mukesh is a close friend of Mohanlal and played many supporting roles in Mohanlal’s films like Hello Dear Wrong Number, Thalavattam, Vandanam, Akkare Akkare Akkare, Kakkakuyil and Boeing Boeing.

Bollywood casting director Tess Joseph has accused Mukesh Madhavan of sexual harassment using the #meetoo trend. Tess Joseph and Mukesh Madhavan worked for the same game show Koteeshwaran. She mentioned that Mukesh had called her several times during the shoot of a game show. On October 9, 2018, Tess took over her Twitter account and narrated the ordeal she had gone through nearly two decades ago.
Mukesh Madhavan himself has issued a statement denying all the allegations and insisting that he has not done anything of the kind. He said it was just an act of publicly tarnishing his image.
