Mukul Rohatgi is an Indian lawyer and senior advocate of the Supreme Court of India. He served as the 14th Attorney General of India from 2014 to 2017, appointed by the then-ruling NDA government. His successor is KK Venugopal. Before becoming AGI, Rohatgi was one of the ten most influential and richest lawyers in India and served as Solicitor General of India for five years during the erstwhile NDA government.

Soon after completing his LLB from Bombay, Mukul returned to Delhi and started practicing in the office of Yogesh Kumar Sabharwal, Delhi High Court. Sabharwal later became the 36th Chief Justice of India. While working there, the budding lawyer handled many cases, including the Sabharwal case. Eventually, after gaining enough experience, Mukul started his own legal practice. In 1978, he was formally admitted to the Bar of Delhi and nearly two decades later, in 1994, Mukul was appointed Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court. In November 1999, he was appointed Solicitor General of India by the then Government of India. His five-year tenure as one of the country’s top law enforcement officials ended in May 2004 with a change of government.
