Murali Sreeshankar is an Indian athlete who competes in the long jump event. He holds the national record in the long jump of 8.26 meters, which he set at the 2022 Federation Cup in Patiala, Punjab. In the same year, he became the first Indian male long jumper to win a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

In March 2018, he participated in the Federation Cup competition in Patiala, where he completed a high jump of 7.99 m, and was subsequently selected for the Indian team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

However, his name was withdrawn from the 2018 Commonwealth Games after he was diagnosed with appendicitis. He participated in the 2018 Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Gifu and won the bronze medal with a long jump of 7.47 meters. In the same year, he participated in the Jakarta Asian Games and finished sixth with a high jump of 7.95 meters.

In September 2018, he broke the national record with a jump of 8.20 meters at the Bhubaneswar National Athletics Open, becoming the first Indian athlete to qualify for the 2019 World Athletics Championships.

However, he failed to qualify for the World Championship finals. In 2021, he set a national record in the long jump of 826m at the Federation Cup in Patiala, qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics. At the Olympics, he jumped 7.69m in the qualifying round and failed to advance to the finals. At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, he qualified for the finals and finished seventh with a time of 7.96 m. He won the silver medal in the long jump competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a height of 8.08 meters, becoming the first Indian male long jumper to win a silver medal at the Games. On May 29, 2022, he won the gold medal at the 2022 Venizelea-Chania Athletics Games in Greece with a long jump of 795m.

- His father said in an interview that Sreeshankar was very active as a child and would often run and jump on the sofa at home. When he was four, he often accompanied his father, a former triple jumper and South Asian Games silver medalist, where his father noticed his potential as a sprinter. Sreeshankar started running 50 and 100 meters but later switched to long jump at the age of 13.

- In 2018, he underwent surgery after being diagnosed with appendicitis and was unable to walk normally for a short time after being put on a liquid diet. In an interview, he discussed his health and said:
At first, the doctor thought it was indigestion and sent me back painkillers. It wasn’t until I had a complete meltdown that they performed an ultrasound and diagnosed me with a ruptured appendix, which put me on a drip for five days. When I finally got home, I discovered that I had lost six kilograms (almost ten percent of his original weight of 65 kilograms). I have accepted that I will not be competing in the Commonwealth Games but I hope to do well at the World Youth Championships (July) and the Asian Games. It was a terrible time for me. I always feel hurt when I’m told I don’t know anything. I studied at a sports academy, studied with several coaches, and stayed in national training camps for more than 10 years. I played on the domestic circuit for many years. I can see changes faster. “
