My daughter was sent home from school over her ‘lingerie outfit’ – she just wanted to feel good about herself

A DAD has revealed how his daughter was left in tears and refused to return to school after being sent home to get her “underwear”.

Karis, now 19, was sent home in February 2021 after being told that her clothing made a male teacher feel “uncomfortable”.

Another teacher said that the clothes reminded her of “underwear clothes”.

It was reported that she was wearing a black knee-length dress with a lace trim over a long-sleeved white turtleneck when the teachers started protesting.

The situation caused her so much stress that Karis never returned to NorKam High School in Kamloops, British Columbia, to finish her studies.

This left Christopher furious and he launched a Facebook Live to tell the story, which has garnered more than 100,000 views in total.

He said: “She didn’t wear it in a sexual way. She didn’t wear it for attention. Otherwise she wears tracksuits and a hoodie.

“She had a snowboarding accident a month or two ago and couldn’t be active for a while. She started going to the gym and felt better.”

He added: “The day she decided to wear a dress and feel good about herself, this is how they reacted.”

Those who watched Christopher’s video began sending hate towards the school in support of his daughter.

Karis initially stayed home for over a week, but when it was time to return, she couldn’t bring herself to go inside.

She is getting more and more nervous about what to wear.

“It became more about what to wear to school than about going to get an education,” Christopher said.

“She missed over a week of school and then she said, ‘Dad, I don’t know what to wear to school’.”

Things got so bad that Karis felt she needed to talk about what kind of clothes she could wear, talking about her concerns about how she would be perceived.

Even if she was wearing something comfortable, Chris said she was worried about adjusting.

He added: “She elaborated a bit and said, ‘Dad, if I wear something that makes me feel beautiful, am I trying to rub it in their face?'”

Although Karis refused to go back to school, she still managed to complete her high school education at home.

She was also able to attend the graduation in person with her friends.

Now she has started university in Alberta and wants to put the ordeal behind her.

Christopher said his daughter wouldn’t change a thing even if she had the chance to go back.

In a touching tribute posted on her 19th birthday, Christopher wrote: “Karis Wilson you are beautiful, you are resilient, you are smart, you are compassionate, you are funny and most of all I just love being around you. Happy 19th. birthday baby.”
