Mystery as woman, 26, feared kidnapped from Notting Hill Carnival is found in hospital five days later

A Portuguese woman who was last seen at Notting Hill Carnival on Monday has been found in hospital.

Patricia Araujo’s aunt, Claudia Sousa, told the Sun that her younger cousin was admitted to Surrey County Hospital in Guildford after being spotted by members of the public.

The worried family of the missing woman called the police and put out a plea for help on social media after she was last seen on Monday.

The 26-year-old Portuguese hotel receptionist in Ashford, Kent, was filmed dancing at the famous three-day London festival the previous day.

Two police forces, Kent Police and Metohija Police, were looking for her.

Tonight she said: “We have just been told that Patricia has been located and is in hospital.

“We would like to thank everyone for their concern and for helping us by responding to our appeals.”

Claudia, 41, said earlier today: “We are beside ourselves with worry. We are concerned that someone could be holding her against her will.”

Patricia last contacted relatives on Sunday morning with her family fearing that she had been “abducted”.

Her loved ones previously said the 26-year-old’s disappearance was “very out of character” and urged her to come forward.

Patricia’s aunt Claudia Sousa told KentOnline: “It’s been so many days that we’ve been thinking about whether she was abducted.

“So many bad things happen at the carnival.”

She said she hopes Patricia simply “met someone” during the celebration and is “having fun with them or at their house.”

Patricia’s family members also said that she did not return home but left with a bag containing a change of clothes.

Sousa said the young woman – who works at the Travelodge at Eureka Leisure Park – phoned her cousin, who lives in the capital, on Saturday to ask if she could come change and go to the carnival.

Instead of the carnival on Saturday, Patricia decided to go out with her cousin, she said.

However, a relative contacted her at 4 am and told her to come home.

Before noon on Sunday, Patricia told her cousin to say she was at the carnival “having fun” – the last contact with the family.

Her phone was found on the floor by a DJ who then contacted her relatives on Tuesday.

Sousa said Patricia was alone at the carnival, so the family posted on TikTok to say she was missing.

Another participant sent them a video and picture of Patricia from Sunday.

Sousa said the same woman saw her without a jacket on Monday at 5 p.m.

Her aunt added that her mom “cries all the time.”
