WBRZ reports that on July 31, New Orleans police took rapper Mystikal into custody on suspicion of first-degree assault. The rapper was arrested on Sunday at 12:50 p.m., the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office announced. He allegedly committed the five charges at 9:21 a.m. on the same day.
According to the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Detail Query, the 51-year-old rapper, also known as Michael Lawrence Tyler, is now awaiting arraignment and has yet to post bail. Three of the five reports were criminal offenses, while the other two were misdemeanors. The bail amount has not yet been determined, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s official arrest record. Furthermore, no date has been set for Tyler’s arraignment.
Additional charges were filed against the Louisiana native, including domestic abuse, domestic violence, simple robbery and criminal damage to property. In Louisiana, property damage caused by Tyler is considered a misdemeanor.
According to official documents, the damage is less than $1,000. He was also charged with illegal imprisonment. Mystikal’s domestic violence offense also included strangulation. However, this is not the first time the rapper has been convicted of sexual abuse. In 2004, he was also accused of the same crime.
He was then sentenced to six years in prison. Michael Tyler, now a registered sex offender, was sentenced to 90 days in jail on domestic violence charges against his then-partner in 2012, two years after he was released. Mystikal was again charged with sexual assault in August 2017 and released on $3 million bail. However, the prosecutor apparently dropped the case due to a lack of evidence against Tyler.

Possible penalties and fines
Since Mystikal was convicted in Louisiana, which has the highest incarceration rate in the United States, the rapper will likely face another prison sentence. Therefore, Michael Lawrence Tyler not only falls under the notorious Louisiana Three Strikes statute, but exceeds its qualifications. Under this law, Tyler could be prosecuted as a habitual offender, which carries the possibility of imprisonment “at hard labor,” according to the Eric John D. & Eric G. Johnson Law Firm.
On the fornication charges, the 51-year-old New Orleans native could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or parole. He also faces up to five years in prison without the possibility of parole for sexual assault. Meanwhile, for felony domestic violence, Mystikal faces a fine of $300 to $1,000, as well as 30 days to six months in jail. Similarly, for simple robbery, Mystikal could face a $3,000 fine and seven years in prison without hard labor. Finally, for the misdemeanor charges, Michael Lawrence Tyler faces a fine of up to $500 or six months in jail.
