Naaz Joshi is a transgender international beauty queen, transgender rights activist and motivational speaker. She was born a boy named Aizya Joshi. Her relatives also call her Charu. She is famous for being India’s first transgender international beauty queen.

Naaz Joshi was born in New Delhi on Monday, December 31, 1984 (36 years; as of 2021). Her zodiac sign is Capricorn.
She received her foundation degree from St. Joseph’s College. She studied Design at Pearl Academy, Knitwear Design and Technology at NIFT, Aviation/Route Management and Operations at Frankfinn Stewardess Academy and did an MBA in International Marketing from Institute of Management Technology, Hyderabad. When Natsu was in school, her male teachers saw her acting like a girl and they used to teach her how to act like a boy. Her classmates often make fun of her. Natsu was sent to a house belonging to her relatives when she was seven years old. They didn’t let Natsu study and always made her do housework. Naz started working at the Dhaba so that she could afford her schooling. She used to go to school in the morning and work in the dhaba in the afternoon. When Naz was eleven, she was gang-raped by her cousin and five other men. Her uncle told her not to tell anyone about it. She later met another trans woman who told her that Naz was a little different from everyone else and that society wasn’t ready to accept her. The woman invited her to work as a bar dancer and Naz quit her job at the Dhaba and started working in a bar to manage expenses. At the age of eighteen, she met her cousin Viveka Babaji, a famous model in Mauritius at the time. Vivica assures Naz that she will bear all of her study expenses. In 1998, Naaz completed her studies. In order to continue her studies, she was admitted to the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to study fashion design. There, she studied hard and ranked among the best in all semesters. She was a bright student and during her internship on campus, she had the opportunity to work with renowned designers Ritu Kumar and Ritu Beri. She had faced many problems in the workplace. Her colleagues often call her by different names. 2013 is a very critical year in Naz’s life. In 2013, she underwent gender reassignment surgery.
Her surgery required huge sums of money. In order to make money faster, Naz started working as a sex worker. She went to the hospital alone for surgery. She spoke about her surgery in an interview and said:
I’m an introvert and I cry easily when people make fun of me. I learned to face every situation with courage. I do not tolerate ridicule or teasing. “

Naaz Joshi started her career in 2016 when she met photographer Rishi Taneja who decided to make a documentary on Naaz’s life. He wanted to use her photos to show people what the transgender community goes through. Rishi followed Naaz for a year just to capture her daytime photos. The pictures clicked by Rishi are on display at an exhibition in Milan. The editor of “Tehelka” magazine also participated in the exhibition. He decided to put Natsu on the cover of his magazine. In 2016, Naz became the first transgender person to appear on the cover of a magazine. The title of the magazine was “How people like Naz Joshi are changing the way we see men and women”.
In the same year, she became the Miss United Nations brand ambassador.
In 2017, she became the winner of the Miss Diversity World competition. She also became the first transgender woman to win a competition against cisgender women. She won the same title three years in a row.
In 2018, she became Miss Transgender Queen of India. She once again became the first transgender woman to win the competition. In 2019, she appeared in Cian Agro Industries and Infrastructure Ltd’s advertising campaign for Klaren sanitary napkins.
She won the Miss Universe Diversity crown in August 2020.
In 2021, she won the title of Queen of Earth.

- In 2019, Naz booked 20 rooms at a hotel for the 2019 Queen of the Universe pageant, but her reservation was canceled on the day of the show. She accused hotel staff of sexism against her. She claims she reported the situation to the hotel sales manager for two months, but he canceled the reservation after learning she was transgender. Hotel staff denied all the allegations and said they needed permission from the RSO to book 20 rooms for one guest. Naz wrote about the incident on Facebook.

- In 2017, contestants in the Miss Diversity World competition were tasked with spending time with children who had been abandoned by their parents. Naz had a great time with the kids, but the other women in the competition were less willing to talk to the kids. This allowed Natsu to win the game. Even after winning the tournament, Naz didn’t get much media coverage.
- After Naz won the Miss Diversity World crown, she was congratulated by the famous anchor and editor-in-chief of Indian Television, Rajat Sharma.
- After Naz adopted the girls, she said in an interview that she was happy to be a single mother. She informed that the child she adopted belonged to a couple who were about to separate, and that it was a test-tube baby, so she easily obtained custody of the child.

If you abandon them, they might become bar dancers or sex workers like me. They might have to try to kill themselves like I did. So please don’t betray your children. Embrace them with open arms. They are just your blood. “
