Nadeem Saifi is an Indian music director-turned-businessman and part of the iconic music composer Nadeem-Shravan duo. In 1997, Nadeem was accused of plotting the murder of T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar.

Nadeem Akhtar Saifi aka Nadeem Saifi was born on Friday, August 6, 1954, in Mumbai (age 67; as of 2021). His zodiac sign is Leo. Nadeem developed a keen interest in music at an early age and after completing his studies at St. Mary’s High School in Mazgaon, Nadeem formed a band with his friends. A mutual friend of Nadeem and Shravan introduced them to each other and they decided to work together as music composers.

Nadeem Saifi met Shravan Rathod through a mutual friend at a party. They both wanted to become music composers and decided to form the composer duo Nadeem-Shravan. Their first project together took place in 1979 when they composed the music for the first song “Kashi hile, Patna hile” of the Bhojpuri film “Dangal”.

Over the years, the duo has collaborated with Anuradha Patel, Hariharan, Suresh Wadkar, Pankaj Udhas, Roop Kumar Rathod, Vinod Rathod, Alka Yagnik and many other famous Indian playback singers. In 1985, the two composed music for their first independent commercial project, Star Ten. This album invited ten Bollywood actors including Mithun, Jackie Shroff, and Anil Kapoor to sing songs for the album. Their big career breakthrough came in 1990 when they collaborated with Mahesh Bhatt in the romantic drama Aashiqui. The songs from this album became super hits and this was Nadeem Shravan’s rise to fame. After working together on more than 150 films as music composers and music directors, the duo decided to split in 2005. Shravan lost interest in composing music and decided to focus on the careers of his sons Sanjeev and Darshan. In 2015, Nadim returned as a solo composer for the film “Ishq Forever”.

An arrest warrant was issued against Nadeem Saifi while he was on holiday in London in 1997, claiming that he was the mastermind behind the attack on Gulshan Kumar. The attack took place on August 12, 1997, when three assailants opened fire on Gulshan Kumar, who died on the spot outside a temple. Others involved in the case include Anees Ibrahim Kaskar (brother of Daoud Ibrahim) and Daoud’s associates Abu Salem and Kaiyou Mu. During the interrogation of the gangsters, it was discovered that Nadeem organized a “secret” music event for Daoud Ibrahim in Dubai in June. In 2001, the Indian government brought the case to the High Court in London and requested the extradition of Nadeem Saifi, but the government refused. Later, Mohammad Ali Hussain Shaikh, who had earlier claimed that Nadeem was involved in the murder, eventually revealed that he had no relationship with Saifi. Abu Salim also denied Nadeem’s involvement in the case. He was acquitted by four different courts, including the House of Lords and a court in Mumbai.
Facts/Trivia
- Nadeem Saifi is constantly traveling between London and Dubai. He holds British citizenship and owns a perfume company called “Arabian Attars” in Dubai.
- Nadeem Saifi’s grandfather was awarded the title of “Khan Bahadur Saheb” by the British government.
- Nadeem and Shravan’s album “Aashiqui” (1990) became the best-selling music album of all time. The album has sold over 20 million copies over the years.
- On April 19, 2021, Shravan Rathod tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to SL Raheja Hospital in Mahim. The news was announced by Rathod’s son Sanjeev Rathod. Nadeem posted a picture on his social media platform asking his fans to pray for Shravan’s speedy recovery. Unfortunately, Shravan Rathod passed away on April 22, 2021 due to heart attack and multiple organ failure.
