News from Nadine Arslanian

According to Friday’s Wall Street Journal, federal prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating whether Nadine Arslanian, the wife of Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), received gifts or favors from those who sought out her husband’s favors.

According to the website, the US Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York subpoenaed Arslanian’s associates as part of the investigation and requested information on Menendez and Arslanian.

The investigation is different from the one carried out in 2015 that led to bribery and corruption charges against Menéndez, 68, which culminated in a mistrial two years later.

According to the magazine, the current investigation began at least in 2019 when federal agents executed search warrants against New Jersey businessman Wael Hana. Hana, known to Arslanian, controls the only organization authorized to certify halal meat shipments to Egypt.

According to the magazine, the current investigation began at least in 2019 when federal agents executed search warrants against New Jersey businessman Wael Hana. Hana, known to Arslanian, controls the only organization authorized to certify halal meat shipments to Egypt.

According to court documents, investigators are apparently looking into possible covert foreign lobbying. The Journal quoted Hana’s lawyer as saying that his client signed a halal certification agreement with Egypt “without any help from any American public official.”

Antranig Aslanian, a New Jersey attorney, was also reportedly subpoenaed as part of the investigation. Aslanian and Nadine Arslanian have reportedly known each other for a long time. Aslanian admitted to the Journal that he was unaware of the prosecutors’ goals.

Prosecutors allege that in the 2015 case against Menendez, Florida ophthalmologist Dr. Salomon Melgen offered him more than $1 million in private jet travel, vacations and other gifts in exchange for helping the doctor obtain visas for their girlfriends in the foreign.

In addition, according to investigators, Menendez received significant political donations in exchange for helping Melgen win lucrative government contracts. Michael Soliman, Menendez’s adviser, told The Post last month that while the senator is “aware of the investigation,” he “doesn’t know the scope.”

As always, the senator is available to offer any assistance requested of him or his office, according to Soliman, in the event of any official inquiries.
