Namita Kaul Bhattacharya, also known simply as Namita Bhattacharya or Gunu, was the founder of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Atal Bihari Vajpayee) adoption. She has stayed away from the spotlight and has not revealed any personal information to the media. In the 1990s, while her father and husband were preoccupied with campaigning, she was an elementary school teacher.

She was fostered by one of India’s most influential politicians. Her adoptive father Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as Prime Minister three times. Her father kept his public life private. He lives with Rajkumari Kaul, a member of his extended family who is rumored to be his lover. Unmarried, he adopted Namita and took care of her like his own daughter.
She belongs to the Hindu Brahmin social caste. She grew up with her sister, Nandita Nanda, daughter of Rajkumari Kaur.
During her graduation, she fell in love with and married Ranjan Bhattacharya, who was pursuing Honors in Economics. They have a daughter, Niharika.
Her father Atal Ji passed away on August 16, 2018, at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi.
