After completing her MBA, Namita worked briefly at GlaxoSmithKline, a British multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company headquartered in London. Subsequently, she was assigned to work at Guidant Corporation, an American medical device company. She began working in the financial planning department as a corporate treasurer. She has held various positions in the company for approximately 6 years. She subsequently joined Emcure Pharmaceuticals as Chief Financial Officer. Slowly, her role in the company expanded and she began to look after the company’s India operations. As of 2022, she serves as Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals.

Thapar is a board member of the Fuqua Business School’s Regional Advisory Council. Namita is an active member of the Young Presidents Organization. She is also a trustee on the Board of Directors of TiE Mumbai. In December 2021, she appeared as a jury member on Shark Tank India, an adaptation of the popular American business reality show Shark Tank. The show features a panel of potential judges, also known as “Sharks,” who listen to and invest in a variety of new business models and ideas.

She is also involved in various government initiatives such as NITI Aayog’s ‘Women Entrepreneurship Platform’ and ‘Digital Health Working Group’ and ‘Champions of Change’. These programs were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of the G2B Policy Development Partnership. Apart from being an entrepreneur, Namita is also an author. In August 2022, she published the book “Dolphins and Sharks” (Entrepreneurship Story). Published by Penguin Random House India, the book follows Namita’s journey from an overweight Gujarati girl with low self-esteem to a successful entrepreneur who takes her father’s business to new heights.
