Naomi Osaka Says Her 'Heart Dies Every Time' She Loses After U.S. Open Run Ends in Second Round

Tennis star Naomi Osaka talks about how she copes with the loss.

After losing to Karolína Muchová on Thursday, August 29, in the second round of the US Open, Osaka revealed in her post-match press conference that she was “really disappointed. She described the loss to Muchová as feeling like her “heart is dying every time I’m losing”, trans Sports Illustrated.

Despite her success at the US Open, Osaka remains confident in her abilities on court and said she knows she can “win” – and is working hard to prove it.

“I’m working a lot more than I’ve ever worked in my life, so it has to turn into something. Well, not ‘should’, but I think it will,” Osaka told reporters.

She added: “Even though I didn’t make the finals, I still, in my brain, think I can win these tournaments. I feel like eventually everything will work out and it might not be on the timeline I want it to be, but I think it will come eventually .”

In July, Osaka spoke to PEOPLE about prioritizing her health as an athlete and new mother to daughter Shai, who was born in 2023.

“As an athlete, my health has always been a priority, and even more so now that I’m returning to tennis after my daughter,” the 26-year-old told PEOPLE at the time. “I’m learning new ways to take care of myself both on and off the field, not only for myself, but for my family.”
